Preconference

Start your professional development before the conference even starts. All pre-conference activities will take place on Monday, October 7. Though the FAAC® workshop has an additional fee - the others are free!


FAAC® Preparation Workshop**
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Workshop participants will receive complimentary access to the exam preparation guide, a practice test (only available to workshop attendees), and the knowledge exam — a value of $525 for only **$300!

Self-Care and Burnout Prevention for Leaders

This engaging and fun pre-conference will rejuvenate you! We will focus on practical ways to prioritize self-care to prevent burnout in an increasingly complex work environment. Participants will hear about practical individual examples for self-care and will also discuss leadership behaviors that encourage and promote self-care across the team. Attendees will complete an individual assessment, share best practices, and have space and time for self-care practices within this session.

Dr. Khalilah A. Marbury is a cultural competency educator, higher education administrator, and dialogue facilitator.  Having advanced through various higher education roles in her 23-year career, Dr. Marbury has a proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. She gained her master’s and Ph.D. in Higher Education & Student Affairs at Indiana University with a focus on retention and the campus climate for diverse students. Her experience expands beyond the college classroom and administrative realm to the community where she engages organizations, schools, and businesses in personalized workshops and trainings to enhance cultural competency, diversity and inclusion efforts.   Her presentation style has been described as thought provoking, personable, engaging, understandable, structured, and orderly - even through difficult conversations and topics.  She believes in encouraging safe yet uncomfortable dialogue on critical topics that can yield growth.  Dr. Marbury has conducted several workshops, trainings and audits over the years with many repeat clients. 

Former clients include Indiana Library Federation, Indiana Economic Development Association, The Container Store (headquarters and worldwide staff training), Girls Inc., Meeting Professionals International – Indy Chapter, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, Johnson County Public Libraries, Indianapolis Doulas, Herron High School, Indiana Comprehensive Treatment Centers, Marian University, Franklin College, Cleveland Stepstone Academy, Des Moines Public Schools, and more.  She has served as a diversity panelist for the NCAA, Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, a diversity trainer for the Indianapolis Police Department, Eskenazi Hospital, and as a diversity guest speaker and workshop presenter for several companies and organizations across the United States.  Dr. Marbury stays abreast of the trends and best practices in the field through actively participating in national organization conferences, board memberships, trainings, research, and community involvement.  Personal references available upon request.  In addition to her professional career, Dr. Marbury is an active member in leadership with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; the President & Founder of SAAS National Organization Inc.; mother to four daughters and (Luvi) grandmother to Brave & Stori.
