    MASFAA's Equality Talk Book Club

White Fragility: Why It Is So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism, by Dr. Robin DiAngelo

Our live, online, discussion for this book will be held on February 26, at 11 am (Central).

Mission Statement: As leaders of the financial aid community, it is our goal and duty to help students obtain access to a college education and achieve their educational goals. By expanding our understanding of diverse groups, book club members will strive to think critically and inclusively to inform decision-making, the populations we serve, and our communities at-large.

MASFAA’s Equality Talk is designed to

    • Expand participants’ awareness and appreciation of diversity
    • Promote open and extended discussion of inclusion and equity issues
    • Provide a safe setting to be vulnerable as we expand our knowledge of critical issues
    • Connect and enhance the feeling of community within the organization

Join MASFAA's book club and converse on these important topics with your Midwest colleagues. Check out the Equality Talk Book Club page here.

Financial aid administrators are entrusted with significant responsibility, and the FAAC® designation affirms the professional commitment not only to those responsibilities, but also their commitment to uphold the highest ethical standards.

Since 2019, an elite group of more than 650 financial aid professionals have earned the esteemed FAAC® designation — and you now have the opportunity to access an intensive preparation course to help you prepare for NASFAA's Certified Financial Aid Administrator® (CFAA) Program knowledge exam! At this in-person workshop, you will use a suite of materials prepared by NASFAA.

Registered participants will receive a comprehensive set of preparation resources and complimentary access to the certification knowledge exam. Resources include:

    • Exam preparation guide for candidates
    • Self-assessment worksheet
    • Exam preparation workshop handouts
    • Practice exam and diagnostic report

This full workshop is $300 for MASFAA members, and $400 for non-MASFAA members. This is a significant cost savings as the exam and Exam Preparation Guide are $525 if purchased directly from NASFAA  and that doesn't include an in-person preparation workshop!

Lunch is provided and included in the registration fee.

Access to federal financial aid, including Pell Grants, was returned to students who are incarcerated as of July 1, 2023. The initiation of these Prison Education Programs (PEPs) is a complex process. Consideration of partnerships, authority, processes, and financials can be overwhelming. Schools that are already committed to operating a PEP face an interesting clash of changes, as PEP initiation coincides with FAFSA Simplification, creating a complex process and ecosystem to navigate. NASFAA provides national technical assistance to both financial aid and prison education administrators and is available to address the creation and operation of PEPs.
