MASFAA Matters Webinar: Enhancing Interactions with First-Generation Students

  • June 29, 2020
  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (CDT)
  • Online

The National Center for Education Statistics stated in 2018 that about one-third of all college students are first-generation. This number is expected to increase as our society's demographics change and colleges attract "non-traditional" students, who hold multiple identities that intersect with their first-generation status. Whether we know it or not, a large portion of the students that we interact with are the first in their families to go to college and hopefully graduate with a degree. Based on their unique experiences and the challenges that first-gen students face, how we interact with them can have a huge impact on their academic, financial, and personal success. This webinar provides MASFAA members with some tips on how to enhance their interactions with first-gens to create more effective communication and a sense of community.
